Para Reuben y Grace Larson no fue una tarea fácil, pues los quichuas huían y se escondían de ellos. Reuben pensó que construir una tienda en Dos Ríos haría que la gente se acercara a su puerta. Al comienzo lo que vendían eran fósforos, machetes y variedad de alimentos para sus familias. 

A medida que la reputación de los Larson crecía, empezaron a vender sal, distribuir el correo y comprar oro para el gobierno ecuatoriano. Reuben también supervisaba las escuelas locales y algunos asuntos en esa área. 

En 1930, Clarence Jones viajó a Dos Ríos y allí filmó a D.S. Clark, cambiando armas de fuego y municiones por oro. Esta difícil jornada en la selva (9 días) inspiró a Clarence a comprar un aeroplano para la misión.  

This was not an easy task for Reuben and Grace Larson; the local Quichua Indians ran away and hid from them! Reuben decided that building a trading post at Dos Rios could bring people right to his doorstep. At first, they traded matches, machetes and various trinkets for food for their family.

As the Larsons reputation for honesty grew, they distributed salt, delivered mail and bought gold for the Ecuadorian government. Reuben also oversaw the maintenance of local schools and trails in the area.

In 1930 Clarence Jones traveled out to Dos Ríos where he filmed D.S. Clark trading firearms and ammunition for gold. This difficult journey into the jungle (nine days) gave Clarence the inspiration to purchase an airplane for missionary aviation.
